Joyce Kimani

Joyce is a communication and knowledge management expert based in Nakuru, Kenya.

She has worked as a Communication Officer for the Consortium for Media and Human Rights (CHARM). Prior to that she was the Resilience Fund Liaison for the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GITOC). Prior to that she was an advocacy, communication and research fellow at DefendDefenders in Kampala. She has served in the communication office of Kenya Markets Trust (KMT) where her role included observing the trends in the livestock, seed and water markets. She served at Journalist for Human Rights (JHR) based in Juba, South Sudan as a media trainer attached to Juba Monitor and the Voice Magazine.

Her journalism work spans from deep investigative features, and soft news for The Mail and Guardian, Daily Maverick and Power FM based in South Africa. As an adherent feature writer, Ms. Kimani wrote for The Star Newspaper and The Nation Media Group Newspapers Daily Nation, Taifa Leo, and Business Daily. She currently freelances for the Star Newspaper as a community Justice Champions writer.

Ms. Kimani has a degree in Mass Communication from Makerere University and is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in leadership from International Leadership University. She has served as the Vice President for Kenya Correspondents Association (KCA). She also sits on different media boards including chairing the Ayin Media House and The Network for Women in Media and Public Relations Board. On a personal level, she sits at the TrueCare New Day center that focuses on creating safe spaces for teen mums across Kenya.

When she is not changing the world she enjoys hiking, riding bikes and drowning in a good book.
